Microsoft are releasing Microsoft Office 2010, their latest version of their office suite of applications. As part of that release, they are introducing Web Office, which will be a cut-down version of Office accessed via your web browser.

This, I’m sure, is in line with other online suites such as Google Docs. Maybe they’ve finally realised that people are happy to use online applications (cloud applications) to reduce their costs. Many users have migrated across to Open Office, the open source, free alternative, as well as Google Docs.

I think this is a real step forward for Microsoft, and shows that they do watch the market trends.

I’ll be watching to see when this is released and giving it a run through to see what’s available.
